In this competitive world you must stand out above your competition.
Make sure your logo design really works for you and brings you
business. Take aim and define your goals! More importantly, use
your instincts. After all, you want to eat the
bear before it eats you.
Developing your unique logo could
be the single most important decision that you make when starting
a small business. It is the visual expression
of your company identity; a part of your "branding"
as it's commonly called these days. Because it will represent
the "visual voice" of your company, product or service
on all of your marketing materials for a
very long time, it is important that you plan carefully
from the very beginning. A truly successful logo will
communicate the "personality" of your business.

Let's
pause for a moment to examine successful logo branding techniques.
A logo can be an image . . . think of Target, Nike and Polo.
All one has to do is see one of the "images" to associate
the products with the company. In the case of Polo and
Nike, consistent and strategic "branding" allows them
to charge much more than their competitors
that offer similar, generic products of equal quality and design.
It's pretty impressive what a positive (or negative)
impact a logo and branding can have on a business. A logo
can also be font based (typography is a text treatment which
can be used to represent your company). Google and Yahoo!
are two companies that have successfully utilized this technique.
Another technique is "illustrative". In other
words, the logo clearly illustrates what the company does.
For example, a company selling construction cranes uses a graphic
of a crane to clearly represent the product that it sells.
You can use one, or any combination of these techniques.
But before you do, read on!
Logo Design: Persuasion Strategies and the Unconscious Mind
The human mind has a tremendous ability to recognize
symbols and signs. When combined with repetition they form patterns
in the mind. You will be creating a "pattern"
when you place your logo on your business cards, stationary,
your product, your brochures, advertising, website, signage
and more. What pattern will you be generating in the
minds of your customers? This is why it is so very
important to decide ahead of time exactly what impression
you want to leave. To achieve pattern recognition, you
need repetition - the subconscious mind recognizes and responds
to repetition. The power of patterns
to pursuade can either be positive or negative (or sometimes
there is no effect at all, which is probably the worst).
Repetition is strength in advertising and marketing and has
incredible influence on persuasion. People who don't
understand the value and use of a logo in persuading the subconscious
mind are potentially leaving tens of thousands of dollars
on the table. I hope you're not one of them.
Are you aware that you are now beginning to understand
how important this decision can be? If you have . . .

strategies and incorporate them in to your logo.
